Elisar Riddelin: Vuolahatar for string quartet, percussion and machine hammer (2021)

According to one Finnish myth, Vuolahatar was a goddess who became pregnant from the wind and gave birth to iron. The work combines the sound of a machine hammer with the legends of iron.

 

The concert celebrates the 75th birthday of Juhani Suolahti, a blacksmith from Janakkala and a supporter of Kokonainen/Musequal.

I The mirrors twisted into each other

II I cried until sleep took me with it

III The distortion of the mirrors created the shadows of the dance

IV Dreams don't come in the twilight...

V If you could experience dreams when you look in the mirror

VI I would have danced, but my legs stopped moving...

...I looked in the mirror and it wasn't flickering anymore...

...I closed my eyes and the dreams were gone.
