Musequal is organizing a competition for finding a new Composer in Residence for 2021-23.

The competition is open to composers of all ages of all nationalities.

The position as a composer in residence for Musequal includes at least one paid commission from the composer chosen for the position. It also includes free promotion and visibility for the composer. Musequal will also continuously apply for more funding to be able to commission even more work from the composer in residence. In any case existing works from the composer will be performed.

The work with which you can apply is a free-choice chamber music work of about 10 minutes for 2-4 instruments. Instruments available are: 1 violin, 1 viola, 1 cello, 1 piano. The composition does not have to be composed for the competition or be unpublished/unperformed. The work has to be acoustic.

The jury that consists of Finnish professional composers and musicians will shortlist all submissions and choose 6 pieces for the final concert held on 9th of February 2021.

The application must include:

1. Completed personal data form (download and send filled with other documents)

2. Receipt of the registration fee of EUR 10 from our webshop

3. Score and parts of the composition in PDF format (A4 sheet music).

4. Motivation letter “What is the significance of equality in music to me?” The length of the motivation letter is not fixed and up to you.

 

5.  A midi or mp3 recording file of the composition (we do not accept other recording file types)


To maintain the anonymity of the competitor, the motivation letter must be written in English.

 

Application period 1.11.– 31.12.2020

The final concert will be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 6 pm at the Cultural Center Caisa in Helsinki as part of the Musica Nova festival.

Musequal does not cover your travel or accommodation in case you want to attend to the final concert.

The Jury may decide to divide the prizes or not to award a prize.

The jury's decision is final.
